30 Billion Yen for Colombo LRT project

The Japan International Corporation Agency has a signed an agreement with the Sri Lankan Government to establish the Light Rail Transit System (LRT) for a value of 30 Billion Yes (USD 350 million).

The project is set introduce 15.7 kilometers of track in and around Colombo with the objective of providing better transportation facility and improve safety and comfort to the public transportation in Sri Lanka. As a result would reduce sound and air pollution which will improve urban environment.

The Special Terms for Economic Partnership (STEP) will apply which will promote transparency of Japanese aid through a transfer of outstanding Japanese technology and expertise.
