Police media unit reported today (15) that a lorry carrying explosives were seized by police task force in Hambantota. The driver has been taken into custody and investigations are currently underway.
The police task force were able to recover nine packets of Ammonium Nitrate containing 25 kilograms each. 195 Gelignite sticks and 100 detonators were recovered from the lorry.
The lorry was stopped as the Hambantota city intersection after the driver was caught speeding. Due to not having the right documents and suspicious behavior and upon further searching the lorry. Police were able to recover the explosives.
The army explosives unit will also be involved in the investigations.
