Gotabaya Rajapaksa has said people were tired of conventional politicians who only think of votes and care little for the development and progress of the country.
Mr. Rajapaksa said in an interview that he was confident of getting elected as the President of Sri Lanka at the end of this year because he was not a conventional politician.

He said even if the minorities, especially the Tamils, were influenced by ethnic considerations, he could win with greater support from the Sinhalese majority.
Mr. Rajapaksa said sugar coated plans alone are not enough and a presidential candidate must have the ability to implement the plans.
Mr. Rajapaksa said that during the war, Jaffna peninsula was rising with military camps but when the war ended, he cleared lands up to Keerimalai, Vasavilan and Thondaimannar and kept only the Palaly High Security Zone.
