I’d resign – Mahinda Deshapriya Expressed his views deeply on delaying Provincial election

Today, during the press conference held in his office, the chairman of the Election Commission of Sri Lanka expressed his deep thoughts about delaying provincial elections unnecessarily. He said that it is very much uncomfortable to work against his conscience when he knows clearly that dragging election is inappropriate. According to his views, provincial election for all provinces should be held before November 10, 2019.

When he was questioned about going into court and file a case against this action he told that, according to the law enact by the legislation and other relevant acts, etc ; currently this is not illegal though inappropriate, hence, filing a case in court will not be effective. But, he encouraged general public to go forward and file a case if they think this is illegal and violate their rights.

However, in his conclusion he clearly expressed that he along with his team will try their maximum to hold the election on time despite agendas of certain political parties and, if he unable to do so he said that he will resign rather working against his conscience.
Let’s wish that the election will be held appropriately and appropriate result will be worked out.
