An Iranian vessel carrying heroin has been held in Sri Lankan waters and has been brought aground.
107.22 kg of heroin said to be worth over LKR 1 Billion was found in the trawler said the police.
Nine Iranians were arrested and handed over to the Police said the Navy.
A special operation conducted by the Police and Navy help detain the Iranian vessel.
Investigations discovered that the crew of the vessel had discarded part of the heroin at sea.
The vessel was believed to be coming from Pakistan and towards the Southern Sea.
Investigators also said that they suspect the vessel is connected to underworld leader Makandure Madush who is currently detained in Dubai.
