State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne stated today (11th) that the government will be revoking the age limit imposed in job recruitment.
The minister said the ability of the person to perform the job is important than the age during the second reading of the budget.
‘This will empower women to participate in workforce. Only 6% of women were only employed in 2006 and their contribution to the economy is minimal. But now it’s 36% today. Women are taking up more than men in tertiary education. Private companies are hesitant to provide women employment due to compulsory benefits that needs to be provided as per legislation. That’s why the government is providing tax concessionary to companies who employ women,’ he said.
