Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today arranged to a request from opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa to have further negotiations on the planned Counter Terrorism Act (CTA).
Rajapaksa told Parliament that there are strong protests to the CTA in its present system.
He commended the Prime Minister to create a Parliament select committee to further discuss the schemes.
The Prime Minister said that the CTA has already been debated with the opposition and he is willing to have further discussions to reach an agreement.
The CTA has been planned to change the present Prevention of Terrorism Act.
However worries have been high that the planned CTA will be more risky to democracy than the PTA.
