The first Presidential media awards held today was tarnished by controversy, mainly with some of the organizing phases of the awards ceremony.
Worries had also been upraised about some of the winners picked in the newspaper categories.
It is also learnt that several journalists had not even applied for the awards as there were worries over the selection procedure.
Some newspaper editors invited for the awards ceremony walked out after not being assigned suitable seating.
President Maithripala Sirisena had stated his remorse over the incident and requested the Minister of Mass Media to look into the issue.
Media Minister Ruwan Wijewardene also uttered regret over the incident and guaranteed an investigation.
