Opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa today (10) insisted the government to assign a Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) with full authorities to probe the Easter Sunday attack, determine the historical background behind it and recommend the steps to be taken to prevent such disasters in the future.
He told parliament that everyone should rise up as Sri Lankans against terrorism and rescue the country from the tragedy.
Mr. Rajapaksa said the government was accountable to safeguard the safety of fear-stricken people, build their assurance and re-establish the economy.
Mr. Rajapaksa said the government had scheduled to reopen primary section of schools at a situation when security forces had cautioned of a possible attack on the 13th of this month and asked if it was rational to risk the lives of four million children.
Referring to the planned Counter Terrorism Act, he said the country could never be saved from terrorism if this new act was brought in place of the Prevention of Terrorism Act at this stage.
