Talks between Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will begin tomorrow (14th) and will focus on forming a new alliance.
Though informal talks has begun between President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. There will be a party discussion as well with an open mind stated former Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
Basil said that the next presidential candidate will be decided by the party. But majority of members prefer Mahinda Rajapaksa to be the next presidential candidate.
Though interests has been shown by SLPP. The 19th Amendment does not allow former president to campaign. Recently SLPP members have informed that they will back anyone proposed by Mahinda Rajapaksa.
