The Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) has summoned former chief executive officer of Sri Lankan Airlines Suren Ratwatte to appear before the panel on irregularities at the Sri Lankan Airlines, Sri Lankan Catering and Mihin Lanka to question him on the cancellation of Airbus A350-900 leases in 2016.
The notice was announced by retired Supreme Court Judge Anil Gooneratne, Chairperson of PCoI. During the sitting today (14) when testifying witness Head of Finance at the SriLankan Airlines Yasantha Dissanayake after calming that he was unaware of the cancellation in 2016.
In 2013, the previous management of Sri Lankan Airlines decided to purchase a new A350. In 2016, the management, appointed by the new Government, cancelled the first four Airbus A350-900 leases. It was reported that the Sri Lankan Airlines would have to pay over USD 90 million as a penalty.
